Love was a three-star quarterback at Liberty High School. Richardson was the 66th-ranked pro-style quarterback in the class of 2016 and led Liberty to its first-ever Central Section Division I Championship in 2015 after finishing second in 2014.

During Love's senior season, he was named the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division I Valley League Offensive Player of the Year and earned all-area co-MVP honors after passing 2,148 yards and 24 touchdowns while also rushing for 806 yards and eight touchdowns.
